Valentine's Day Trip to Europe - Luxembourg

I am ALL about seeing things and going places I've never experienced before, so even though Luxembourg is one of the smallest countries in Europe, and there isn't THAT much to do there, I was dying to go! And now I can fill in one more country on my map :)

After Amsterdam, we took a 2 hour train to Brussels, and then connected to a 3 hour train to Luxembourg... BIG train ride day.

Train from Amsterdam to Brussels

At least trains in Europe are well traveled, meaning a LOT nicer than the ones we have in the US!

We got there a little later in the afternoon, to a FREEZING COLD COUNTRY. I had no idea it was supposed to be that cold... usually the temperature is in the 40's in Europe during the winter, so I unfortunately packed incorrectly and had to layer up the entire time I was there - I looked like the Michelin man.

We were staying on the other side of the bridge, but this is the view once we walked across into the old part of Luxembourg City. It's so beautiful... looks like some kind of kingdom in the forest from this side.

And that's basically what we did for the rest of the time! Walked around aimlessly, drinking beer, and even randomly took a 45 minute train to Germany one day so I could see it ... but that part comes later :)

Love the way their little buildings look here.
Me and Luxembourg :)

For once, it was actually pretty nice that there wasn't much to do. Usually when you go to Europe, it's GO GO GO GO GOOOOO 24.7, so we actually got to have a real RELAXING vacation, and still see somewhere new. They had GREAT food too - one night, I introduced Mark to Michelin Star restaurants. It was in CAVES underneath Luxembourg City, which was pretty much the greatest thing since sliced bread. And their wine in that region is phenomenal.

It looks like a mini France, which I LOVED.

We were super confused the entire time we were there, because people were either speaking German, French, or some combination of the two that I can't understand. Whenever we're in a French-speaking country, I can understand and at least respond to people in some sort of elementary way. In Luxembourg, we were pretty much on our own as the lost Americans. :)

So even though it's small, as long as you're only there for 3 days like we were, it's a perfect place to visit!
